The windows are in and the scaffold is up ready for the Roof to be put on.

Lighting choices 10-08

Lighting - Were stepping away from the site for a post and looking at lighting. Something I really quite like for some reason.

This is one of the lights we are thinking of putting in the living areas.
I'm a big fan of wall lighting, and this is what we have planned of the stairs and the media room.

Now I cant split these two. I have them both in mind for the kitchen, over the breakfast bar. We will match the colour of the glass splashback to which ever we choose, and go for a red and while theme for the kitchen.

Roof frame on 24 - 08

The roof frame is on!

The roof has a 12.5 degree slope on it and is really hidden by the facade when looking from the road.

Now we have a really good picture of the whole shape of the house, and I think were still getting used to the size of it.

The deck is not on yet, looking forward to the outdoor man cave!

Level 2 frame 19-08

As you can see in the above front of block photos the facade is showing quite clearly. its not too complicated :), just 3 rectangles which really give that square modern shape. Hopefully not looking to similar to the neighbors.

It did not take long and the first story was complete.

As you can see the engineered wood joist (I-joist), on the floor of the main hallway in the entry image. They will be used to create the sub floor and provide the structure for level 1.

And very quickly the slab is complete:


Now were starting to get a clear picture of what were in for. The slab is around about 225m2, about 12m x 18m.

Slab prep, Slab layout & Piers 31-07

Slab Preparation:

Look at all those Polystyrene blocks!!


Slab Layout:


The slab is a Waffle Pod slab as you can see with the Polystyrene blocks everywhere. A Waffle Pod slab is where the concrete is sitting on a series Polystyrene blocks set out in a grid pattern. The advantage of a Waffle Pod slab is that it lies above the surface, as opposed to traditional foundations, which are dug into the earth. This type of slab offers cost savings as site preparation is much simpler than traditional concrete slabs and there are significant savings in the amount of concrete used.

Notice the pink X markings on the last photo. This is marking the sewer line underneath the slab.

Piers on west side of block:

The piers are 450 diameter , and 1500 or so deep.
